Founded in 2003, the organization has grown from volunteer dental students offering emergency care to a network of professionals and volunteers working on sustainable development projects. These efforts include capacity building, education on oral hygiene, and community outreach, aiming to address both immediate dental needs and long-term health outcomes. Volunteers, including dentists, hygienists, dental nurses, and students, play a crucial role in delivering care and training to local communities. The charity provides free dental services such as restorative treatments, extractions, and preventive care in regions where access to oral healthcare is limited or non-existent.
Colosseum Dental is a proud partner of Dental Health Without Borders since 2025. We aim to send at least two dental professionals per Colosseum country per year on a DHWB mission. The goal is to not only help those with acute and critical pain, but to also educate local communities about better oral hygiene and nutrition. The program focuses on teaching school children effective oral hygiene by incorporating daily toothbrushing routines into their school day. These initiatives are developed in partnership with local NGOs and rely on the involvement of teachers, parents, healthcare workers, and dental professionals to establish sustainable oral health practices that can be locally managed.
Additionally, DHWB engages with policymakers to promote the integration of school-based dental care into broader health policies at both regional and national levels. By presenting evidence and scientific research findings, the non-profit organization aims to demonstrate the significant advantages of prioritizing dental prevention and care within national health strategies, encouraging policymakers to adopt these measures.
